Long Beach Island, also known as LBI or “The Island”, is located in the southern portion of Ocean County, New Jersey. LBI is a barrier island on the Jersey Shore that stretches 18 miles along the Atlantic Ocean coastline and is half a mile in width at its widest point. The island is bisected by Route 72, commonly referred to as the “Causeway” and is the only access point by land. The northern portion of the island is home to the historic Barnegat Lighthouse that was used in the movie The Perfect Storm. Communities in the northern section include Surf City, Loveladies, and Harvey Cedars which are sparsely populated with a variety of luxury waterfront homes and vacation properties. The southern half of the island, where the majority of year-round residences and business are located, consists of the boroughs of Beach Haven and Ship Bottom.
